# We made a surf game. Then we went and built the real thing.
Surfit has always been about one feeling: reading a wave and picking the right moment. It turns out that feeling is exactly what real surfing runs on too, and it is the part most surf apps get wrong.
So here is some news from the same maker: [SurfMap](https://surf-map.com/), a surf forecast app for iPhone, Android and Apple Watch that adapts to your level and counts your waves automatically. Full transparency, this is our own project, from the same developer as this game. This is not an independent review, it is a family announcement.
## Why another surf app
Most forecast apps rate the ocean as if every surfer were the same person. The same spot gets the same score whether you have surfed for ten years or ten days. SurfMap flips that: you set your level once, and every rating at every spot is computed for you. A gentle, waist high day shows up as a great day if you are learning, and as a skip day if you are hunting barrels.
In game terms: the difficulty curve finally matches the player.
## The feature that feels like a cheat code
Start a session on your Apple Watch and it counts every wave you ride, from the motion of your wrist. Heart rate, distance paddled, the GPS trace of your session, all of it lands on your iPhone when you get out of the water. SurfMap covers more than 5,000 real surf spots around the world, with waves, wind and tide hour by hour, and a weekly view that highlights the best day to go.
